Australia day

I met a woman whose son lives in Canada. As a treat she sent him a package of all Australian stuff for the celebration of Australia Day 26/1/11. But you guessed it all the goods like the flag, the bandana, the stubby cooler, the mug, the thongs and jocks emblazoned with the Australian flag were
MADE IN CHINA
I have only seen one flag which proudly displays it is made in Australia by an Australian company.
Can't we even make a pair of thongs?

A chill wind

I reported the other week on my dilemma with a Made in China air conditioner.
I purchased my new model with some expectations albeit with trepidation.
Well as I said I wait for the inevitable and it happened.
Last night at 2am the air con fan threw off its blades and stopped.
So back to the shop and we replaced it with another one. I know common sense should step in here and I should refuse another one but,I'd paid, I was hot, and the replacement would fit in the window. So I took the step and nodded in the affirmative when they offered me another.
the good thing is at this rate we never have to clean the filter!
And I must commend the "Good Guys" for their service. They never quibble but just get the paperwork over and done with and that is that.

vegetables from somewhere else.

I had a surprise the other day. I wrongly assumed when I bought frozen vegetables from a supermarket chain they would be from Australia. I mean they are just the cheap variety of frozen veg.
but I was astounded to find they came from CHINA. So
when I next bought veg I looked at the packet. 2 out of 3 that I picked up came from China.
What is going on that Australia can't make their own frozen veg.
I try to do my bit but it is increasingly difficult to get something from home.
I had to buy New Zealand veg to get the variety I wanted.
How can we prop up our economy when we are subsidising Mr. Wong and Mrs Foo?
Don't we grow carrots, peas, corn, potatoes, beans etc? And can't we freeze them?
I'm not alone in my thinking.

I bought an airconditioner the other week hoping to stay cool.
all I got was hot under the collar.
The salesman said all the right things. Promised endless cool air.
the air con was a con.
Made in china to no quality control what so ever it barely worked. After much deliberation I took it back.
the delivery dock lad said they get one or two back to my query on how many he had seen. But... one or two back A WEEK!
why sell the darn things in the first place.
I asked for something NOT made in china.
not possible.
Korea,Japan,India,Pakistan,EU ANYWHERE????
NO
So I settled for an upgrade and had to buy another brand. I wait for the inevitable.
