customs

Bureaucracy at its best.
An Australian research vessel leaving Australian waters went to all the trouble to make sure they could bring back uneaten stores, they involved the customs in the purchase of their meat.

Can we take this meat and bring it back?
Yes if you make sure they have Australian labels and were packed in Australia.
No problem.
The crew went to the butcher and got some labels and went to customs and asked if the labels were correct.
Yes said the customs.
So they left these shores and when they returned they had meat in the freezer, with the labels that were approved.
But, You guessed it
Customs said you cannot bring meat into Australia.
But, But, you said...... yadda yadda yadda.
Ah yes said customs but...the meat may have come from NZealand.
Imported in from NZ taken out then brought back and well the research vessel lost a goodish amount of meat to the tune of $1000 or more.
