the spirit of something

I have seen a woman on the news singing Christmas Carols. That in itself is not a crime, but this woman was wearing the traditional head gear of a Muslim. In the spirit of Christmas this cross culture is a good thing, but I just wonder about the other way around. Remember the Danish cartoons, remember the teddy bear.

I can't say if the woman was a practicing Muslim, or a Christian, but in this world of intolerance I wonder how she got away with it. Common sense says she is just having fun in a holiday spirit but ...
